Taking the name 'Mark' as an example, where M has a number value of 4, a of 1, r of 9, and k of 2 we add these together and obtain number 16. This is further reduced to a single digit, ie 1+ 6 = 7, so the name 'Mark' has an expression number of 7. (The whole name, ie. all names given at birth or adopted since, or the forename and surname together, can also be used for this purpose).
